Family Ties

My grandfather, Bob Jones ’30, and I graduated from Clemson 60 years apart. When my grandfather passed away, I was given his Clemson ring. I didn’t want it to sit in my jewelry box never worn and only admired at times. My mother had an idea to have the top portion, the most recognizable part, made into a pendant. So, for my 23rd birthday, my parents presented me with this most precious gift.
However, I was left with the rest of the ring, not knowing what to do with it. After I became engaged to Matthew Gross ’89, it became clear. I had the rest of my grandfather’s ring made into Matthew’s wedding ring.

When I wear the pendant, it is an immediate conversation starter, and I enjoy telling the story that goes along with it.
