Baltimore/DC Clemson Club – Tigers United at The National Zoo’s Great Cats Exhibit

Tigers United at The National Zoo’s Great Cats Exhibit

June 11, 2022
5:30 – 7:30pm

With Dr. Brandie Smith, Director of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, and the Tiger Keepers

The tiger runs deep through Clemson’s history.  It’s a symbol of our pride and our passion and at the heart of our pursuit for excellence.  Yet, tigers in the wild are in danger.  According to best estimates, there are fewer than 3,900 tigers remaining in the wild and they face an uncertain future.  The Tigers United University Consortium, founded by President Jim Clements, is committed to preserving and protecting tiger populations.

On Saturday, June 11, the Baltimore/DC Clemson Club will raise awareness for this important cause at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, DC.  Guests will have the opportunity to meander around the expansive Great Cats Exhibit while interacting with the Tiger Keepers.  In addition to answering questions, the Keepers will talk about the two Tiger species at the Zoo, Sumatran and Amur, and conduct feeding demonstrations with frozen oxtails.

The evening also includes a reception on Lion-Tiger Hill where the National Zoo’s Director, Dr. Brandie Smith, who earned an M.S. in zoology from Clemson, will welcome guests and make brief remarks.  Catered by the highly acclaimed La Prima Catering, the reception will feature a delicious selection of hors d’oeuvres and white wine sangria.  Many thanks to La Prima for being an event sponsor.

Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind event – having exclusive access to the Great Cats Exhibit and Tiger Keepers is truly a rare opportunity!

Registration is $55 for Club Member adults and $49 for children (under 12). Non-member registration is $75 for adults and $59 for children. Clemson Club Members may register for up to 4 member tickets even if the guests are not Clemson alumni or Club Members.

Baltimore/DC Clemson Club – Mount Vernon Volunteer Morning

Mount Vernon Volunteer Morning
May 21, 2022
9:00am – 12:00pm
Volunteers are invited to join us for this fun morning outside as we experience Mount Vernon in all of its spring glory. Our Clemson family will help clean up the estate’s surrounding forest areas helping them appear as they did in the 18th century. This is a very family friendly event and children are encouraged to attend. Water, gloves and fun (including the opportunity to drive Gators!) will all be provided, and lunch will be served. In addition to volunteering, you will hear stories about the historic property including behind the scenes details about the estate that are not part of the typical ‘public’ tour. This is certainly a unique and fun way to see this beautiful monument and give back to our community at the same time. Many thanks to Dean Norton ’77 for organizing this event and providing lunch! Please note:    Consider wearing long pants, work gloves and sneakers/work shoes comfortable for moving around wooded and uneven terrain    Volunteers are welcome to bring water bottles and/or snacks    Depending on the weather, bring and/or wear sunscreen, bug spray, hats, sunglassesRegistration is free for members, their children and one non-member guest. For all other non-members, registration is $10.  Register at https://www.clemsonclub.org/mt-vernon-volunteer-cleanup.
