Sharon Kingman Named Honorary Alumna

Clemson Alumni Association Names Sharon Brock Kingman Honorary Alumna

The Clemson Alumni Association has named Sharon Brock Kingman of Clemson, South Carolina, an Honorary Alumna of Clemson University.

Although not a graduate of Clemson, Kingman has demonstrated a lifelong devotion to the university Sharon Kingman Named Honorary Alumnathrough her extraordinary service, generosity, and leadership. A graduate of the College of Charleston with a degree in Business Administration, Kingman has built a distinguished career in IT and telecommunications, including her ongoing work with the Olympic Committee. She has worked on 17 Olympic Games and bids including the 2034 Salt Lake City Olympic Games bid which was awarded last year.

Kingman and her husband, Rus, a devoted Clemson alumnus, were instrumental in founding ONE Clemson, an Alumni Association affinity group that supports student-athletes through professional enrichment, mentoring, and internships. Kingman has managed the group’s primary fundraising events, including its annual golf tournament and auction, and has personally mentored student-athletes. She also hosts the annual ONE Clemson tailgate to honor sponsors and volunteers.

Her commitment to Clemson extends beyond athletics. Kingman has supported student mental health initiatives, including mentoring a suicide prevention group, and has opened her home to students, coaches, and young alumni in need of housing. She is known for her hospitality, often providing meals and support to those she welcomes into her home.

Kingman stated, “Watching Rus (Class of ’72) dedicate his time to his alma mater was inspiring. His decision to move us to Clemson, and the way Clemson itself motivated him to reconnect and engage deeply with his alma mater, made a strong impression on me. I was ‘all in’ too. I am humbled and grateful!”

In addition to her volunteer efforts, Kingman has organized and managed the Tiger Golf Gathering auction for 16 years, donating items and encouraging alumni involvement. She also supports the Brian Dawkins Foundation’s golf tournament auction in Philadelphia.

Sharon Kingman surrounded by friends when being named Honorary AlumnaKingman and her husband are members of the 1889 Cumulative Giving Society and have established scholarship funds, demonstrating their deep commitment to both academics and athletics at Clemson.

Some of her professional accolades include 14 years on the College of Charleston Foundation Board, including a term as Chair. She also volunteered on the Board of Governors for their School of Business. Other volunteer roles include BMW’s Board of Governors for their annual golf Tournament in Greenville, the Meyer Center for Special Children, and advisory positions with ASE Wealth Management and Greer State Bank. She has received the Bellsouth President’s Circle of Excellence Award and the International Olympic Committee’s Order of Excellence.

The Honorary Alumnus/a designation is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated a deep dedication to Clemson University despite not having attended the institution. “Sharon Brock Kingman exemplifies the spirit and values of Clemson through her unwavering support and service”, said Clemson Alumni Association CEO, Wil Brasington. “It is an honor to recognize her with this designation.”

Kingman was surprised with the honor at the ONE Clemson Tailgate by Brasington, Deb Conklin, chair of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, Jeff Duckworth, past chair, and Ben Moody, chair-elect.
