We all know Clemson University’s military roots run deep and date back to the founding of the university, reflecting the belief at the time that a military atmosphere produced the highest academic excellence. Clemson Athletics began the tradition of Military Appreciation Week in 1994 in appreciation for those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and now, the football, basketball, soccer, baseball and volleyball teams all participate every year.Since 2013, the Military Appreciation Day game has also been the Purple Out game. This actually started as a student-led initiative when Clemson played The Citadel that year; instead of the traditional orange, students rallied and encouraged fans to wear purple to represent the significance of the color to both the U.S. military and Clemson. Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military – a combination of Army Green, Marine Red, and Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard Blue. Purple is a symbol of sacrifice and bravery and especially noteworthy this week as we honor over 10,000 alumni who have served bravely in the armed forces and nearly 500 alumni who have made the ultimate sacrifice.Our Arizona Clemson Club family will do our part to honor Clemson men and women in the armed forces by assembling care packages. Please join members of our AZCC and pack up some comforts of home to send to deployed troops. - Write an email to a soldier and send it to us at AZClemsonClub@gmail.com. You may sign your first name but do not include your last name. You can also have your Tiger Cub color a picture, snap a photo of it with your phone and email it to us! Letters or pictures sent to us via email will be printed and included in a box.
