Ann Powers Named Honorary Alumna
Clemson Alumni Association Honors Ann W. Powers as Honorary Alumna
The Clemson Alumni Association has named Ann W. Powers
of Florence, South Carolina, an Honorary Alumna of Clemson University, recognizing her unwavering dedication, leadership, and lifelong commitment to education and service.
Though Ann Powers did not attend Clemson, her influence on the university is profound and enduring. Known for her gentle spirit and unassuming nature, Powers has consistently championed education and personal growth, often preferring to let the spotlight shine on others while she works behind the scenes to uplift and empower students.
Powers began her career as chief administrative and financial officer of the Powers Group, working alongside her husband, Wilbur O. “Billy” Powers. Since stepping away from her corporate role, she remains connected through its board of directors while devoting herself to her family, her community, and Clemson University—where her impact continues to grow.
She is deeply engaged with the Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business, offering a guiding light of encouragement and care, mentoring students and providing guidance with enthusiasm. Her powerful presence has helped countless students navigate their Clemson journey, always eager to help others get ahead in life.
“Ann is a thoughtful, caring individual with a heart for service and a spirit of leadership,” said Porter Stewart III, one of her award nominators. “She was the catalyst behind much of the family’s philanthropic mission and continues to carry that legacy forward with grace and purpose.”
With Ann’s steadfast championing, the Powers family has generously made possible the Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business, as well as being one of the first families to secure a stadium suite on the North stands of Clemson’s Memorial Stadium. In addition, she and Billy also showcased their unwavering commitment to athletics as one of the top five families to launch IPTAY’s endowment program.
“Ann’s dedication to Clemson is truly inspiring,” said Wil Brasington, executive director of the Clemson Alumni Association. “She adds value to everything she touches. Honorary alumni like Ann embody the spirit of the Clemson Family—loyal, generous, and deeply committed to making a difference.”
The Honorary Alumna designation was presented to Powers during a ceremony surrounded by family and friends, led by President Clements and alumni association CEO, Wil Brasington.
